hipcil is a member of the federal network of Centers for Independent Living which were founded as a result of grass roots advocacy started by a group of dynamic people with disabilities who wanted to fully participate in their communities. Their advocacy was so successful that Independent Living was included in the landmark Rehabilitation Act of 1973. We started in Englewood in 1980 and grew as an independent 501c3 organization operating in Hackensack and Jersey City. Our core values are:
